Railinc is pleased to announce the addition of a new Positive Train Control (PTC) product page, https://public.railinc.com/products-services/positive-train-control, to its set of Products and Services web pages. This page describes the applications that Railinc has developed to support the interoperability efforts of the rail industry as it implements PTC technologies. The page also provides links to the application user guides.
Currently, Railinc provides the following PTC applications for the rail industry:
- PTC Monitoring and Analysis of Integrated Network Core Data Exchange (PTC MAIN CDX)
- PTC Interoperable Lifecycle Management (PTC ILM)
- PTC Interoperable Train Sheet (PTC ITS)
Railinc developed these applications under the guidance of several PTC industry committees, Transportation Technology Center, Inc. (TTCI), and project-specific Technical Advisory Groups (TAGs).
Although these applications are still relatively new, they are already serving industry-specific needs. For example, during 2020, MAIN CDX, Railinc’s platform for exchanging PTC-relevant system logs, handled 14,535 Log Requests, enabling 54 railroads to efficiently exchange important PTC data.
Railinc is continuing to develop PTC applications. Madhavi Chitoor, Railinc’s Product Manager for Asset Services, states that “Railinc is working on multiple PTC projects this year. We’re developing a new Train Braking Simulation environment that will enable railroads to test safety and performance by running simulations on different Braking Algorithm configurations over a broad range of operational scenarios and real-world parameters.” Chitoor added, “We are also enhancing the existing PTC ITS application to share industry-critical data under trackage rights situations, and we are enhancing the PTC ILM application with value-add features affecting the Change Management, Configuration Management, and Release Management modules.”
