The North American rail equipment fleet increased its total size during the fourth quarter of 2022. The total equipment count was 2,092,310, for a change of 0.2 percent. Carloads originated decreased 0.9 percent, from 336,827       in December 2021 to 333,739 in December 2022.  Coal led gains with a 33 percent increase.
