Railinc maintains the official source of critical data for more than two million pieces of North American rail, steamship, and highway equipment – Umler.
In 2009, its predecessor, the Universal Machine Language Equipment Register or U.M.L.E.R., was retired. It has continued to serve as the base file for other standard industry equipment reference and management systems.
Railinc also releases quarterly Umler Index articles that provide an overview of the changes to the North American rail equipment fleet.
