The Early Warning System identifies mechanical problems on rail equipment which could impede the safe movement or handling of the equipment. It allows authorized users a graphical interface to create Early Warning and Maintenance Advisory notices, issue supplements to notices, assign equipment to notices, report inspections and repairs for equipment, and perform queries of notices and equipment.

As a single source for accurate, up-to-date notice data, the Early Warning System enables efficient and reliable inspection and repair reporting. Access the Early Warning System via TRAIN II and web services.

Equipment Advisory System - Coming in 2021

Coming in 2021, Early Warning will be replaced with the Equipment Advisory System.  This new system will support several of the core Early Warning functions, such as using advisories, identifying equipment subject to the advisory and reporting inspections and repairs.  In addition, the new Equipment Advisory System expands its scope by adding new advisory types as well as other improvements to the existing system.

The primary benefits of the Equipment Advisory System are:

  • Enhanced create process, reducing supplements

  • View of all cars on an advisory

  • No need for duplicate advisories

  • Simplified severity and activity codes

  • Prioritize/escalate individual equipment on a single advisory

  • Improved equipment handling with new advisories types

  • Refresh Equipment Advisory messages
