Railinc creates technology solutions that are helping to make transportation infrastructure safer and are helping railroads and companies deliver resources and consumer products more efficiently and at a lower cost. Railinc is the largest single source of real-time, accurate interline rail data for the North American railroad system.
Railinc is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Association of American Railroads.
Railinc achieved success through a number of asset health related projects, rolled out leading edge updates to the AskRail® app, increased terminal velocity in Chicago through Clear Path™, and continued to plan for the future with a data platform migration.
In 2017, Railinc employees leveraged our data, technologies and rail knowledge to help address critical industry needs. From asset health innovations to infrastructure advancements and product upgrades, we strived to deliver the highest level of value to our customers. Here's a closer look at some of our 2017 work and achievements:
RailSight solutions provide a near real-time data feed of more than 9 million events daily from 570+ rail carriers across North America.
In addition to delivering AAR products and services, Railinc continues to build on the success of asset health products like the Equipment Health Management System, working with individual customers to develop commercial asset health solutions. In 2017 this included work leveraging Railinc data to enhance visibility into component performance. Railinc also has developed solutions to give railroads a preview of equipment headed their way to support predictive and proactive maintenance, as well as a system that helps manage the railcar repair process.
Among Railinc’s commercial projects for 2017 was a partnership with the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority. This ongoing effort, the Port of Vancouver Supply Chain Visibility Pilot Project, is leveraging RailSight and Railinc data to enhance visibility into rail activity and support broader transportation planning and infrastructure development initiatives to improve the fluidity of traffic moving into and out of the port. The project involves multiple constituents, including shippers, multimodal companies and technology providers.
Railinc’s commercial team also worked with customers in 2017 to build applications programming interfaces (APIs) to support comprehensive visibility across modes. This enhances Railinc’s flexibility to serve customers and enables a full range of connectivity options, from legacy technologies like EDI messaging to APIs. Additionally, we made upgrades across our RailSight applications to improve the user experience, including the addition of a mapping feature in RailSight Monitor that enables users to get a geographically accurate view of equipment location and that supports quicker and better decision making.
Railinc's significant role in helping to keep the North American freight rail fleet moving means that Railinc employees come in every day to work with a purpose. Watch the video below to hear what that means to them and why they love working at Railinc.
