The number of carloads moved on short line and regional railroads in October 2024 was down slightly compared to October 2023. Carloads originated decreased 0.4 percent, from 373,273 in October 2023 to 371,684 in October 2024.
Grain Mill Products led October gains, up 25.2 percent. Metallic Ores led declines, down 20.7 percent.

Carloads originated for 2024 were at 3,595,550 through October 31, up nearly 134,000 carloads, or 3.7 percent from 2023.
