Railinc is committed to making our community a strong and vibrant place to live and work. During work hours, Railinc employees contribute time and money to important organizations that serve the Triangle, such as the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina and the NC TECH Association. Employees conduct food drives, organize fundraisers and donate blood — all because Railinc believes in building community by giving back to the community that makes it strong.

Community

Our long-standing partnership with the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina, our support of the NC TECH Association and our commitment to developing technology that makes the freight rail industry more efficient and sustainable are important ways we contribute to building a better community and industry.

Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina

Nearly 600,000 people grapple with food insecurity across central and eastern North Carolina. The Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina built solutions to end hunger across 34 counties in our area for more than 40 years. It provides more than 70 million meals each year to people in need.

Our partnership with the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina started in 2001. In the last five years, Railinc has donated more than a quarter million meals to support the Food Bank's important mission of ensuring no one in our area goes hungry. We provide opportunities for employees to offer hands-on support by volunteering at the facility during work hours, and host an annual “Yam Jam” where we sort and pack sweet potatoes for the Food Bank on the Railinc campus.

Some of our employees' experiences volunteering with the Food Bank:

NC TECH Association

For more than a decade, Railinc has been a member of the NC TECH Association, which brings together industry, education and government leaders to foster growth and innovation for the technology community in North Carolina. We believe in bolstering our local tech community and supporting burgeoning, young tech professionals through our involvement with NC TECH.

Railinc representatives sit on the Board of Executives and Board of Advisors. We participate in NC TECH's Annual CIO Online Auction and Annual CEO Online Auction to help raise money for scholarships that benefit women pursuing technology and/or engineering degrees.

Environmental Stewardship

Freight rail is the most efficient and sustainable way to transport goods across North America. With just one gallon of fuel, a ton of freight can be moved more than 470 miles and less than 1 percent of all U.S. greenhouse gas emissions come from freight railroads. The freight rail industry is dedicated to limiting greenhouse emissions, reducing their carbon footprint and increasing fuel efficiency with technology.
