The number of carloads moved on short line and regional railroads in June 2024 was up compared to June 2023. Carloads originated increased 4.9 percent, from 341,439 in June 2023 to 358,045 in June 2024.
Coal led June gains, up 25.7 percent, followed by Grain, up 25.6 percent. Nonmetallic Minerals led declines, down 13.7 percent.

Carloads originated for 2024 were at 2,126,647 through June 30, up nearly 69,000 carloads, or 3.2 percent from 2023.
