The number of carloads moved on short line and regional railroad in November 2021 was up compared to November 2020. Carloads originated increased 8.8 percent, from 321,500 in November 2020 to 349,870 in November 2021. 

Crushed Stone, Sand and Gravel led gains with a 28.8 percent increase. Petroleum Products was up 18.9 percent, and Metallic Ores and Chemicals increased 18.8 and 18.1 percent, respectively. Motor Vehicles and Equipment led declines again, down 24.7 percent. Grain and Coal were also down in November.

Carloads originated for 2021 were at 4,045,811 through November 30, up about 533,000 carloads, or 15.2 percent from 2020.
