The number of carloads moved on short line and regional railroads in November 2022 was up compared to November 2021. Carloads originated increased 4.2 percent, from 337,454 in November 2021 to 351,476 in November 2022. 

Coal continued to lead gains with a 38.4 percent increase. Motor Vehicles and Equipment and Nonmetallic Minerals were also up in November, increasing 26.4 percent and 23.4 percent, respectively. Metallic Ores led declines this month, down 18.7 percent. Trailer or Container and Lumber and Wood Products were also down in November.

Carloads originated for 2022 were at 3,860,619 through November 30, up about 38,000 carloads, or 1.0 percent from 2021.
