The number of carloads moved on short line and regional railroad in October 2019 was down compared to October 2018. Carloads originated decreased 1.2 percent, from 369,215 in October 2018 to 364,612 in October 2019.
Motor Vehicles and Equipment led gains with a 29.5 percent increase. Nonmetallic Minerals was up 16.7 percent, and Grain Mill Products and Stone, Clay and Glass Products increased 7.8 and 7.0 percent respectively. Metals and Products led declines, down 13.0 percent. Crushed Stone, Sand and Gravel, Food and Kindred Products, Grain, Pulp, Paper and Allied Products, Lumber and Wood Products, Waste and Scrap Materials, Metallic Ores and Other Carloads were also down in October.

Carloads originated for 2019 were at 3,569,919 through October 31, down about 5,000 carloads, or 0.2 percent from 2018.
