The number of carloads moved on short line and regional railroad in June 2019 was down compared to June 2018. Carloads originated decreased 2.6 percent, from 360,666 in June 2018 to 351,301 in June 2019.

Nonmetallic Minerals led gains for the third consecutive month with a 45.5 percent increase. Grain was up 16.2 percent, and Petroleum Products and Chemicals increased 13.5 and 13.1 percent respectively. Other Carloads led declines, down 16.9 percent. Coal, Trailer or Container, Stone, Clay and Glass Products, Waste and Scrap Materials, Pulp, Paper and Allied Products, Metals and Products, Lumber and Wood Products and Metallic Ores were also down in June.

Carloads originated for 2019 were at 2,120,834 through June 30, up about 12,000 carloads, or 0.6 percent from 2019.
