West, who joined Railinc in 1999 and assumed his current position in 2006, has helped establish Railinc as a top technology company in the freight rail industry and in the North Carolina Tech Triangle. He has led Railinc through several achievements that have impacted the industry, from the seven-year effort to rewrite the Umler® system, to the launch of several Railinc products such as Clear Path® and AskRail®, to the creation of the award-winning TransmetriQ brand in 2021. He previously held leadership positions with Norfolk Southern and Sea-Land Service, Inc., a subsidiary of CSX.
“Receiving this Lifetime Achievement Award is truly an honor,” West said. “This award is the result of hundreds of projects and countless hours spent alongside Railinc team members to ensure we deliver the right tools to achieve safer and more efficient rail operations. I am looking forward to continuing our efforts in 2024 and beyond.”
West and the Railinc leadership team have already kicked off 2024 with several initiatives that make rail easier to do business with, continue to improve the already-high standard of safety for rail, and improve shipper interaction with our products.
Aside from leading Railinc and TransmetriQ teams as they seek new ways of delivering value to the rail industry, West also seeks out new opportunities to develop employees so they may succeed and advance in their careers. In 2017, he worked with Railinc leadership to shift the focus of our customer success specialists to provide technology training to customers and make them meaningful contributors to customers’ success. In 2024, Railinc leadership will be rolling out updates to our internal education program to help newer employees become more confident in rail terminology, history, and trends.
