The number of carloads moved on short line and regional railroads increased in year-to-year comparisons. Total carloads were up by 2.2 percent from 342,776 in April 2014 to 350,354 in April 2015.



Trailer and container and nonmetallic minerals experienced the largest gains, up 43 percent and 25 percent, respectively. The most significant declines were observed in metallic ores, down 38 percent, and metals and products, down 30 percent. (Click here to download this file as an Excel table.)
