The number of carloads moved on short line and regional railroads increased by 8.7 percent in year-to-year comparisons. Total carloads were up from 335,551 in June 2014 to 364,862 in June 2015.



Trailer or container and nonmetallic minerals again experienced the most significant gains, up 42 percent and 22 percent, respectively. The largest decline was in metals and products, down 15 percent. (Click here to download this file as an Excel table.)
