The number of carloads moved on short line and regional railroad in June 2020 was down compared to June 2019. Carloads originated decreased 12.2 percent, from 346,068 in June 2019 to 303,855 in June 2020.
Stone, Clay and Glass Products led gains with a 20.3 percent increase. Grain Mill Products was up 17.0 percent, and Pulp, Paper, and Allied Products and Chemicals increased 7.5 percent and 2.4 percent, respectively. Motor Vehicles and Equipment led declines, down 52.5 percent. Food and Kindred Products, Metals and Products, Nonmetallic Minerals, Grain, Crushed Stone, Sand and Gravel, Lumber and Wood Products, Metallic Ores, Trailer or Container, Petroleum Products, Waste and Scrap Materials, Coal and All Other Carloads were also down in June.

Carloads originated for 2020 were at 1,915,994 through June 30, down about 169,000 carloads, or 8.1 percent from 2019.
