The number of carloads moved on short line and regional railroad in February 2020 was up compared to February 2019. Carloads originated increased 2.3 percent, from 310,240 in February 2019 to 317,459 in February 2020. 

Grain Mill Products led gains with a 20.2 percent increase. Chemicals was up 13.8 percent, and Motor Vehicles and Equipment and Crushed Stone, Sand and Gravel increased 12.6 and 7.8 percent respectively. Coal led declines, down 31.4 percent. Metals and Products, Nonmetallic Minerals, Metallic Ores, Petroleum Products and Other Carloads were also down in February.

Carloads originated for 2020 were at 657,744 through February 29, down about 4,000 carloads, or 0.7 percent from 2020.
