The number of carloads moved on short line and regional railroads in November 2023 was up compared to November 2022. Carloads originated increased 4.2 percent, from 346,350 in November 2022 to 360,985 in November 2023. 

Motor Vehicles and Equipment led November gains with a 25.5 percent increase, followed by Petroleum Products, which increased 21.2 percent. Nonmetallic Minerals led declines, down 24.7 percent.

Carloads originated for 2023 were at 3,899,612 through November 30, up about 112,000 carloads, or 2.9 percent from 2022.
