The number of carloads moved on short line and regional railroads in June 2022 was down compared to June 2021. Carloads originated decreased 3.0 percent, from 365,839 in June 2021 to 354,746 in June 2022. 

Nonmetallic Minerals led gains with a 40.8 percent increase. Crushed Stone, Sand and Gravel was up 27.4 percent, and Grain increased 12.4 percent. Trailer or Container led declines, down 25.5 percent. Coal, Lumber and Wood Products, Chemicals and All Other Carloads were also down in June.

Carloads originated for 2022 were at 2,089,288 through June 30, up about 21,000 carloads, or 1.0 percent from 2021.
