The number of carloads moved on short line and regional railroads in February 2024 was up compared to February 2023. Carloads originated increased 6.6 percent, from 317,672 in February 2023 to 338,541 in February 2024.
Petroleum Products and Coal led February gains, up 27.6 percent and 27.3 percent, respectively, from the previous year. Metallic Ores led declines, down 21.2 percent.

Carloads originated for 2024 were at 671,170 through February 28, up about 4,800 carloads, or 0.7 percent from 2023.
