The number of carloads moved on short line and regional railroads in January 2024 was down compared to January 2023. Carloads originated decreased 4.6 percent, from 348,633 in January 2023 to 332,629 in January 2024.
Petroleum Products continued to show gains in January, up 27.7 percent from the previous year. Nonmetallic Minerals led declines, down 22.1 percent, followed by Grain, down 18.2 percent.
